The Spanish Inquisition, was started in 1478 by two Catholic Monarchs Ferdinand II of Aragon and Isabella I of Castile I never met them but I don't think they were very nice people. It was pretty horrible and was intended to maintain Catholic orthodoxy in their kingdoms. Around 150,000 were prosecuted for various offences during the three centuries of a duration of the Spanish Inquisition, out of which between 3,000 and 5,000 were executed.
My family ancestors fled Spain around this time and settled in Ireland. From their, they travelled over to England. First, they lived in the North West of the country and then I moved to London and started doing quizzes and stand up comedy and radio and all that lot.
So you see it goes right back. In fact, I thought that I'd gotten over it until tonight when a team called 'The Spanish In-Quiz-Ition' joined the quiz at The Atlas.
It was a really hard-fought game. Much like the actual Inquisition itself. All teams played hard and fought for every single point.
In the end, it was a massacre. As well as winning themselves a free drink 'The In-Quiz-Ition' won by three clear points.
Well done 'In-Quiz-Ition' for raking up the past like that and well-done everyone else who played.
Hope to see you all again very soon.Disclaimer: Blog posts are written by our Quiz hosts. Any opinions or views expressed may or may not be shared by Question One Limited. If you feel the material here is inappropriate please report it to us so we may address it.
