Let the brake off to take off as we all dodge the Bake Off!

Charles C

A good full house saw a stunning night’s quizzing at The Railway Tavern last night. “You’re a Quizzard, Harry” had the recipe for success, taking first place as they put the edge ahead of steady-risers “The Selasi Sizzlers” and the evenly-baked “The Great British Broke Off” in a second-half thriller. Plenty of chatter about England’s tallest tower (hooray for Portsmouth) and a lot of creativity in trying to decipher the 'Shape Up or Ship Out' catchphrase.

52 quizzers across 13 teams wrestled with the ‘Tom Hiddleston' anagram but it was second-from-bottom -wine-bottle winners "Dave the 'Rave’" that came out as the Night Managers of that question. I am still convinced that me reading out the lyrics to the Baha Men’s you-hate-but-you-love classic ‘Who Let The Dogs Out?’ was more because it sounds so ridiculous in a dulcet south-coast accent rather than because teams hadn’t heard it. Going through it 15 times must be some sort of record – surely?

Well done to all the teams. Even more well done for missing the Great British Bake Off Final. When it comes to quizzing, it's good to know you can never overcook it. (And it's rare to get a soggy bottom.)
